What is a married couple age gap calculator?
A married couple age gap calculator compares two birthdays and tells you how far apart in age two spouses are. This one reports the gap in years, months and days, the total number of days between the birthdays, each partner's current age, upcoming birthdays, and, if you add a wedding date, how old each of you was when you married and how long you have been married.
How the age gap is calculated
The calculator uses real calendar dates, not 365-day years or 30-day months. It counts whole months from the older partner's birthday to the younger partner's birthday, then counts the leftover days. If a birthday falls on a date that does not exist in a given year, such as February 29, the last valid day of the month is used.
If you only know ages or birth years, the result is an approximation in whole years, because a person's birthday this year may or may not have passed yet.
Age gap at marriage compared with today
The gap between two birthdays never changes, but each partner's age does. Adding a wedding date shows how old each of you was on the day you married, which is the number most couples mean when they ask about their age difference. The half-your-age-plus-seven rule
This informal rule of thumb says the youngest acceptable partner is half your age plus seven, and the oldest is found by reversing the formula. A 40-year-old would get a range of 27 to 66. It is a popular guideline, not a scientific, legal or moral standard, and the tool shows it only for adults aged 18 and over.
Is a 10 or 20 year age gap too much in a marriage?
There is no number that makes a marriage right or wrong. A larger gap can mean different life stages, health, energy or financial situations, and many couples with large gaps are happy. What usually matters more is communication, shared values, equal respect and honest talk about long-term plans. If you want to explore how well you fit together beyond age, take the relationship compatibility quiz, or read about building a healthy relationship between husband and wife.

Frequently asked questions
Is a 20 year age gap too much for marriage?
There is no universal answer. A 20 year gap is labelled "very large" by this tool, but that label only describes the number. Compatibility depends on the two people, their values and their plans.
What is the best age gap between a married couple?
There is no single best gap. Couples of all gaps have healthy marriages, and the calculator shows your gap without judging it.
Is 23 and 30 an OK age gap?
That is a 7 year gap, which this tool calls a moderate gap. Both are adults, and the half-your-age-plus-7 rule would put the 30-year-old's range at 22 to 46. Whether it feels right is for the couple to decide.
Can a 57 year old date a 38 year old?
Between two consenting adults it is a personal choice. The gap is 19 years, and the informal rule gives the 57-year-old a range of 35.5 to 100, so 38 falls inside it.
Does the age gap change over time?
No. The difference between two birthdays stays the same, although the percentage difference between your ages shrinks as you both get older.
Does the calculator store my information?
No server receives it. Your entries are kept only in this browser's local storage, and Reset clears them. A shared link contains the data you entered.
