Estimate what long-distance visits really cost
This long distance relationship cost calculator adds up travel, accommodation, food, local transport, activities and a contingency allowance to show what one visit costs. It then scales that figure to a month, a year or any planning period you choose.
Long distance relationship costs are easier to manage when each expense is separate. Enter your own estimates for the long distance cost of flights, trains, buses or driving, and the tool does the arithmetic, shows its formulas and displays your results when you press Calculate. It does not look up live prices, so check current fares and hotel rates before you book.
Use it to plan visits, set a monthly budget, see how many complete visits that budget covers, split expenses between partners, compare travel options and work out how much to save for the next trip. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.

Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate the cost of a long-distance relationship?
Add travel, accommodation, daily spending, other expenses and a contingency allowance to get the cost of one visit, then multiply by the number of visits in the period you are planning.
How much should we budget for visits?
It depends entirely on distance, travel mode, how long you stay and where you stay. Enter your own estimates, then compare the result with your monthly budget in the budget section.
How can we estimate annual travel expenses?
Multiply the cost per visit by visits per year. If visits differ in cost, add each one separately in the visit planner.
How can partners divide visit expenses?
The splitter supports an equal split, a custom percentage or fixed amounts. Enter what each partner has paid and it shows the settlement amount. Partners with different incomes may prefer a percentage that reflects that.
How can we calculate how many visits our budget supports?
The visit frequency section divides your available budget by the cost per visit and reports only complete visits. A result such as 2.7 is shown as 2 complete visits.
How much should we save for the next visit?
Enter the visit cost, current savings and target date. The savings section works out the remaining amount and the monthly and weekly amounts that would reach it.
How can we compare travel options?
Enter up to four options with their costs and travel times. The table shows totals and differences. The lowest cost is not always the best choice if another option is faster or more convenient.
How accurate are the results?
The arithmetic is exact, but the inputs are your own estimates. Results are not live market prices, guarantees or financial advice, and the tool cannot predict relationship outcomes.
Planning visits is a practical way to make distance feel more manageable. Revisit your numbers whenever prices or plans change.
