It’s the constant “what are we?” for me...
look, i just have this weird feeling i cant shake. its like im not single but i’m definitely not in a relationship either. just... here. in this limbo. i keep scrolling past articles listing signs u are wasting ur time in a relationship and even though i relate to them i just cant bring myself to admit it. so i cant stop thinking about the whole Signs He Is Wasting Your Time thing and honestly its messing with my head.

heres the thing, the good moments are so good. they feel real. we laugh, we connect, and for a minute i feel like maybe this is actually going somewhere. but then… its just gone. and theres this constant, low hum of anxiety in the background. its this feeling of having my emotional needs met but only sometimes. just barely enough to keep me from walking away.
its like getting just enough water to not die of thirst but ur still always, always thirsty.
The Texting Limbo: Are We Talking or Are We Just… Typing?
honestly? the most confusing part is the communication. its constant but it feels like it means absolutely nothing. i’ll get these little texts, like, “Good morning, Beautiful,” or a random “Thinking of you” in the middle of the day. and my heart does this stupid little jump. but if i try to respond, to actually start a conversation? nothing. radio silence for hours. or he’ll like every single one of my Instagram stories but completely ignore the DM i sent him asking a real question. it’s like he only really texts when it’s late at night and it’s convenient for him.
it’s not even emotional whiplash anymore… it’s an addiction. for real. its like i'm playing a slot machine with my own heart and every meaningless 'Thinking of you' text is just one cherry.
just enough to make me put another coin in and pull the lever again. i find myself compulsively checking my phone, waiting for the tiny little high from seeing his name pop up, followed by hours of me rereading my last text wondering what i did wrong.
i went down a rabbit hole looking at Signs he's wasting your time Reddit threads last night and wow… it was like reading my own diary. it’s like he knows just enough to give me all the Signs He Is Wasting Your Time but also just enough to keep me from completely checking out.
last night i realized the reality. it wasnt just paranoia; it was a pattern. these are the clear signs i had been ignoring for months:
- The "Limbo" Status: we act like a couple but there is no title.
- Inconsistent Availability: he is hot and cold. one minute hes obsessed, next hes a stranger.
- Digital Games: watching stories but leaving texts on read.
- Convenience-Based Texts: only texts when hes bored or its late.
- Label Phobia: he cringes if i say "girlfriend."
- Keeping Me a Secret: i havent met his friends. ever.
- No Physical Trace: no toothbrush allowed at his place. like i’m a ghost.
- Last-Minute Plans Only: "Are you free tonight?" is all i get.
- No "Plus-One" Status: never invited to weddings or parties.
- Future Faking: He talks about big future trips and dreams to keep me hooked, but never takes a single step to book them.
- Emotional Avoidance: Whenever I try to talk about feelings or "us," he gets defensive, makes a joke, or changes the subject.
- One-Sided Interest: The conversation always revolves around him. He rarely asks about my day, my job, or my struggles.
So after realizing all this, the big question is… what do I do?
So… What Now?
the worst part is just never knowing. never, ever knowing what we are. and its been months, months, but he still cringes if i even joke about the word girlfriend, and god forbid i try to meet his friends, it's always some vague excuse. my toothbrush is still in my purse because im not allowed to leave a single trace.
and i dont think hes a bad guy, not really. it's more like... the closer i try to get, the more he feels a need to run away. like he's allergic to this getting real. it feels like hes terrified of being trapped. part of me, the stupid, hopeful part, wants to believe that if i just wait it out it’ll turn into something real. but the other part of me just feels this deep, gnawing insecurity.
i keep googling What to say to a guy who is wasting your time but none of it feels right. how do u even start that conversation when ur not even sure what ur in?
i stay because i hope he’ll change. i stay because some of my needs are being met and i convince myself that it’s better than nothing. and tbh, i stay because i’ve already paid so much for this. put months of my life, my anxiety, my hope, into this thing. walking away now feels like admitting it was all a waste.
anyway, my friend sent me this thing called His Secret Obsession the other day. i was super skeptical but honestly, it was kinda wild. it didnt give me any answers, not really, but it explained some of the 'why' behind the push-pull thing in a way that just… made sense? i guess it talks about some "Hero Instinct" thing that men have. it didn't fix my life but for a second i felt less crazy. You can see what I mean here if you're feeling stuck too.
maybe the move isn’t to force a conversation or break up. maybe it’s just to… be still for a minute. to stop pushing, stop analyzing, and just see what happens when u do nothing at all. i dont know anymore. i really dont.
